A formal Project Development process for projects that have any IT related process and/or component has been developed. This process covers the entire project life cycle from initial conception to project closure. Proper documentation of projects and coordination with project stakeholders during each aspect of the project cycle is a key part of this process.
Adherence to this process will be required for all City/County Departments/Offices and all associated third party vendors for all projects that contain a technology component. A technology component is any hardware, software and associated implementation as well as any related long term support costs and contracts.
Use of this process by all entities involved in technology projects will allow the Computer Services group to ensure that all aspects of a technology project are analyzed, documented, and approved before implementation and expenditures. This will also allow the CIO to ensure that the maximum possible Return on Investment (ROI) and potential reduction in project costs are realized for technology projects throughout the Enterprise.
